Summary

Justice Samuel Alito confirmed speaking with Trump hours before Trump’s legal team filed an emergency Supreme Court request to block his Friday sentencing in a hush money case, has drawn scrutiny due to ethical concerns.

Alito denied discussing Trump’s legal matters or pending cases.

Trump seeks to delay sentencing, arguing it disrupts the presidency and national security.

The Supreme Court requested prosecutors’ responses by Thursday morning and will decide by Friday.

A justice tasked to decide a criminal’s fate having a friendly chit-chat with said criminal would have been instantly invalidating for the justice and the criminal.

Yet here we are today, it’s just meh news.

That high-pitched whirring sound you’re hearing is the Founding Fathers spinning in their graves at 15,000 RPM.

Who indeed? Who among the chronically comic book, lone wolf, hero culture obsessed United States could be inspired to action against a singular existential threat? In the interest of nonviolence I hope we never find out. It would surely be a tragedy if someone among the downtrodden stepped up and made their voice heard on a global scale by doing something desperate.

…then Vance would have been elected on a wave of sympathy.

Just like Johnson, who was unsurprisingly not a popular guy. But they didn’t elect Johnson because he was Johnson, they elected him because he was JFK’s vice president.

I don’t know why so many people here think assassinations always solve problems when they more often make things worse. Everything has gone worse for Palestinians since Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated. I mean fuck, an assassination unintentionally started WWI. And that assassination was done by someone who had a rightful grievance about Austrian occupation of his homeland and thought that was what would bring his people freedom.

And even with the recent assassination of Brian Thompson- have insurance rates gotten lower? No. Are politicians discussing any legitimate healthcare reforms? No. Is UHC doing business as usual including things like denying the claims of coma patients? Yes.

I don’t blame Luigi Mangione for doing what he did. But, and I keep saying this and people refuse to believe it, you cannot assassinate your way out of a systemic problem.

the opportunity for systemic change has passed. We did trump AGAIN. This is only going to get worse, and if you’re still optimistic, you’re just lying to yourself.

I’m not optimistic at all. That’s why I’m getting out while I still can. Just waiting for someone to hire me in the UK because I’m a dual national. The UK may not be safe either, but it is safer than the US for now.

I remember learning about avoiding the appearance of impropriety in school. Maybe Justice Alito was absent that day.

The fact that he spoke with Trump at all while Trump has personal cases pending which are likely to reach SCOTUS is improper all by itself.

“I tell this guy, Alito, hey Alito, you know? You’re a great judge, people say the best judge, you know? But you don’t need to worry now. We won, you can stop pretending we don’t talk. I don’t think he gets it though. Great judge, just cares too much what the Lying Media™©® will say. It doesn’t matter what they say. I say it’s fake, I sue them, and they come kiss my feet.”

      -Trump probably.
