You know, those are actually really good points. And “bleeding the beast” is one of my actively most hated tactics of theirs… Don’t know how I could have forgotten about that, tbh. There’s just so much horseshit to keep up with these days that I occasionally lose some in the pile I guess.
WinXP has had a long time on the shelf, it’s EOL so it’s not getting updated, and it’s still occasionally in use by businesses - when true, usually on critical infrastructure pieces that they can’t afford to take down to swap to a newer machine. People know this and so XP is a malware magnet. There are about a gorillion scripts loose in the wild that just find IP addresses at random - or not random - and hammer them with a bouquet of exploits, almost all of which will be easily fended off by a modern updated system, but several of which XP is probably vulnerable to.
So, the second you have a functioning network driver and complete your handshake with the internet, chances are good that somebody will be trying to sneak a script up your ass to corrupt the system. I’ve never seen it happen during install but if you’re exceptionally unlucky I could see how it could be possible.
That was a citizen, not a politician, and therefore had no say in right-wing policy or size of government.
I don’t mean individual voters, I mean “the right” as a bloc, i.e. Republicans. Because they’ll tell you all day long that they pine for a smaller government, while signing off three bills increasing government presence at the Mexico border, or creating a new task force for illegalizing trans folks, before they even finish lying to you about it. And folks vote for them because of their lies.
I have other separate issues with them trying to destroy all the actually useful government entities such as the EPA and the FDA and the post office, but shit, at least that is faithful to what they claim their goals to be.
But for the entirety of my life the right wing has been clamoring constantly about “muh small government” while actively working to stick their governmental noses directly into every single person’s business. They’re liars and crooks. And events like the Killdozer Incident happen because of their lies and crookedness.
Please do point to one single instance of the right wing wanting less government at any point in the last 50 years, I’ll wait

As far as I know, it was pretty much always like that. My tolerance for that used to be better. Reminds me of CAD in that fashion, a comic that for a bit I actually genuinely liked but as I got older and the author got… weirder… it’s one that I moved away from.

However, a lot of folks would love to work at a California based company, be paid California based wages, and then live in an Arkansas cost of living. You have a super valid point for your own standard of living, but there are plenty of workers willing to make that trade for the financial security.
Suddenly a percentage of the Arkansas population actually has a decent amount of income, you start getting some purchases and tax income in the area, now the ass end of Podunk, AK actually has a little bit of cash money to invest in their area. Rinse and repeat in a hundred thousand little drive-by towns across rural America. As long as it has internet connection someone can make a good living there, and that’s a huge difference to what we’ve traditionally seen in those towns - that being, everyone is broke as shit, so there’s no real upward mobility for anyone because there’s no new money coming in. This is a huge step forward towards addressing that.

A player having access to counterspell is need-to-know DM information just like a player having access to flight is. It can and should be planned around.
Also, if the player and DM are into it, escalate the arms race, start having enemies prepare counterspells. Lots of interesting casters have it on their lists but DMs are afraid to use it to its full potential. Players would do it to enemies all day long but when the tables are turned, nobody ever forgets what it’s like to have the enemy lich counterspell their heal.
As far as I know that’s already the case.
But nobody is going to know about it except you and (optionally) whoever you hired to do it if not yourself, so you’re only getting fined/arrested for it after you’re caught going 180mph.

About half of US states have safe storage laws. You can probably guess which ones. Surprisingly, both Texas and Florida are both on this list, though, so credit where it’s due.
The enforcement of those laws is another story, though. And to be fair, enforcement can be difficult. You can always charge them with a safe storage violation after an incident happens and police/EMS/etc enter the home legally, but otherwise, nobody is coming into your home to ensure that you’re locking up your guns properly. It’s illegal without a warrant, and surprise safety checks aren’t something you can issue a warrant for.
Bro I actively challenge you to install Mint and have problems with it. It’s nearly impossible. Worst case you’ll need to wineskin some niche Windows-only game or program, but honestly even that isn’t necessary all that often in my experience. You’re going to have a no-stress install finished in a quarter the time that a windows install would be, and a robust OS that apes the windows environment to such a degree that average non-technical users won’t have any idea they’re even using Linux.
Barring some sort of hardware incompatibility that I haven’t experienced personally, I’ve installed Mint on around a half dozen machines in the past several years and have yet to recieve a complaint from the end users. It just works.
I remember in the bad old days of the early to mid 2000s, Apple was pushing software updates considerably past the ability of their hardware to actually run it. I had a 5th Gen iPod Touch and after about two and a half years of owning it, it had become basically a brick. Non-responsive UI more often than not and it took upwards of 8 minutes just to reboot the thing, because they were pushing software updates to it intended for a device 2-3 generations ahead. And this was not an isolated incident. I’m convinced it was on purpose, intended to push people to buy the new models.
Is this still a problem? I switched to Android and never looked back round about 2008.

At any given point in time, I can clock out for my lunch break and walk out of the parking lot and I am no longer an employee of my company at that time. The big-ass prybar in my toolbox also isn’t company property.
I haven’t had a situation yet where I’ve had to make use of that ability, but I have had to bring up its possibility once or twice.
And that’s only because I actually value my job. If I didn’t like my job there’s really nothing stopping me from throwing some hands at a shitty customer other than police action, and to be honest, the cops don’t really like to come around the area where I work very often.
More people need to be just a little bit more afraid of service workers. Treat us nice and we’ll treat you nice. But treat us like shit and we don’t really have all that far to fall if we decide you’re the hill worth dying on. I’ve been really damn tempted to just beat the fuck out of an asshole customer before and while I’ve never done it, I know a lot of folks in my industry with a lot less restraint than me.
