Any boot out of US Marine Corps boot camp would have hit him one out of two shots easy with an AR-15 from 500 yrds away in the prone position. Even more proficient if they were able to use any sort of support like a bipod.
Sure, a boot who was trained to use that rifle could have made the shot. So could a half decent hunter. But by all accounts this was just some dude, with no training, no scope, no bipod, and likely full knowledge of his impending death. Can’t really blame the guy for being a bit twitchy on the trigger.
