I don’t know if that will be true for much longer. I think people’s attitudes on american military worship might be beginning to change, starting yesterday. I’m already seeing a boatload of it.
Imagine if we could all agree, every side of every conflict, that all the soldiers just turn around and point the guns at the people telling them to kill.

People are heavily propagandized to from a very young age. For example, GI Joe. Hundreds of other examples as well. They want to shape kids that think of the military as good and benevolent.

Cause some people are psychos. Like I understand if a poor kid has no other means to get out of their situation and thus joins the army. But there are many middle class families with several generations of high ranking service members. These people are just straight up psycho, they have all the inside knowledge of what the military actually does and they still force their kids to join the military academy.
IME, unless it’s for papers and whatnot, it’s usually because your brain doesn’t work so you have no options outside of it (and your brain is so atrophied that morality is not considered either).
In a country with no universal healthcare it’s a way to get free/cheap healthcare as well as other perks… until you get deployed, then that excuse no longer flies.
Soon enough they’ll require military service to vote.
That’s my hobby, too. We need all the help we can get countering the Conservative Propaganda Machine.
