How often do you go to concerts? Do you go to local shows? Do you buy merch?
Every month or two I’d say, maybe 8 a year? Not big arena shows, usually one multi day festival and a few concerts at smaller venues, and yeah if there is live music at a bar that is always preferable to TVs or recorded music. Generally don’t buy merch, no. My kids sometimes do.
Pretty often, I’d say about once a month on average but sometimes I’ll have 3 or so right in a row. Never at a big stadium, those shows aren’t worth it. I buy merch on occasion if it’s a band I really like and want to support.
almost never because of how terrible ticket master is closed source barely works and requires google play services just a nightmare of a app
almost never. tickets are often quite expensive and i get to hear my favorite artists at home, with quality speakers and headphones, at the volume i find pleasant.
Not often enough. Been to two Protomen concerts and Weird Al’s first “laid back/retirement” concert. Always buy at least one piece of merch.
So less than one a year. Was going to go to the Flaming Lip’s Yoshimi anniversary concert, but life got in the way and I couldn’t snag tickets.
It’s something my wife and I talk a lot about, but life keeps getting in the way of us getting out to them.
We get out to local opera and classical music stuff a little more often, as my wife is somewhat involved in that scene, but I assume most people don’r think of recitals as concerts.
One every few months, I love live music
5-10 /year and would go more if :
I lived closer to my favorite venues (those that put shows on I want to see) I can get tickets without stress (🖕 to ticketmaster, scalpers, etc)
I like loud but there is a thing as “too” loud. sound engineers know what they’re doing. For these shows I use the foam plugs
I do buy merch. I like music. Others who do should go and be a part of your community, both physical and cultural. Make an effort!
I went to one around 2003 I think.
Since Covid I go to concerts more often. Try to purchase a new ticket before I go to the last concert I already have tickets for.
So I go to 2-4 paid events and maybe 1-2 for free events a year. This includes concerts and 1-day-festivals. I shifted from only seeing the one fav-band I have and now buy a ticket for everything I like and like to support. No matter if they are small or big names. When I was young, I only saw the one punk rock band. Now I go to pop concerts, gangster rap etc. just listen to whatever I think is cool.
Nice! You’re the first person so far to say you go to concerts more often since covid.
Me too on the genres. I seem to broaden my horizons more and more as time goes by. I’m glad I didn’t end up being one of those people who only listens to what they liked in high-school
In the media I consumed a lot of focus during Covid was: if we cannot perform and we don’t get financial aid, how do we continue make music/art/theatre etc. and it clicked for me that listening to Spotify will not feed the artists.
So as soon as some kind of open air, distance concert was on, I purchased tickets. For me it was kind of cool, because I am very small and never see the stage. Having beach/ deck chair concert or “sitting” at a table was nice since I could see the stage. But I obviously are happy to have the opportunity again to jump into a pogo pit or Schlagerstrudel.
Teenage me would be very confused to know I listen to hip hop now too. But I try to enjoy new music, listen to upcoming artists and just be excited.
Went to my very first concert this year, actually (Porter Robinson). It was awesome (was in the front row, too!). Now I’m hooked and I already booked tickets for two other ones this year. 🥰
The reason why I never went to any concert in my life was a mixture of having too much social anxiety and not enough money. Tackled both of these problems, but it took me a while.
I’m going to sound boring, but never because I’m worried that I’ll wreck my hearing
You don’t sound boring! You sound smart!
Try Senner or Etymotic earplugs. And put them in right after you enter the venue. All that chatting people do before the show will, if anything, at least be exhausting for your mind.
Been 20 years exactly almost for an actual “concert”, like just seeing one or two bands. Travelling to a venue is expensive for me as I live in the middle of nowhere. Plus I don’t really have anyone to go with. I go to local gigs with my brother and his girlfriend once every month or two. They travel all over for concerts but I think I’d feel like a third wheel if I went with them, though I might tag along if it turns out they’re seeing a band I really want to at some point.
I went to some festivals in 2023, it feels easier to justify the cost of travel to see a bunch of bands over a whole weekend. Was actually going to go on my own but my brother came with before he got with his gf. Might actually do one on my own next year. Rebellion in Blackpool is great and indoors which is a big plus in the UK.
I’m a sound engineer, I have to go to concerts, it’s kind of my job.
Best one so far 😆
Pretty much never been except the last two years. Went to the following the last two years:
- Live orchestra of Lord of the Rings music (really nice)
- Eivør (really can’t recommend her enough)
- Heilung (Eivør as foreband, really amazing as always)
- Planned to go listen to the Witcher music with live orchestra later this year.
It seems that once you find your niche and place to look it’s really nice!
I‘d say around 4-6 times a year, depends on which bands play near me. I buy merch about 50% of the time, mostly when i really enjoyed a band or wanted a shirt from them for a long time.
