For this Sunday Slop Night, first up is French thriller Rififi (1955), one of Jules Dassin’s best-regarded films, and one of the seminal movies about guys who really good at their jobs. It concerns a group of jewel thieves who pull off a heist and then struggle to keep the cops off their tails. This was one of the main influences on Jean-Pierre Melville’s Le Cercle Rougle (1970), which was, in turn, one of the main influences on Michael Mann’s films. It is considered one of the greatest French films of all time, currently ranked #199 on Letterboxd’s Top 250. After that is animated fantasy Nimona (2023), concerning a knight who teams up with a shapeshifting winged teenager to take down a corrupt king. But wait! It apparently includes a bunch of queer stuff, too. The directors are Troy Quayne and Nick Bruno, the same duo behind, uhh, Spies in Disguise (2019). Excellent reviews for this one, so let’s check it out.

We’ll start at 9PM EST on Hextube, right here: https://live.hexbear.net/c/movies

Be there, comrades!
