The MK (armed wing of the ANC) bombed shopping malls and restaurants at times. There was a lot of violence and civilian deaths, that is what happened. 20 000 people in KwaZulu Natal and Gauteng died in clashes between the ANC and the IFP. Many of them innocent people caught in the crossfire. Necklacing of innocent people occurred, as was revealed during the TRC. Winnie Mandela infamously said that she would liberate South Africa with necklaces and matchsticks. A lot of this happened when Nelson Mandela and the rest of the principled ANC leadership were in prison or had fled to other countries, and had limited control of the situation.

This is not me condoning these actions or justifying them, innocent people and civilians obviously do not deserve to die, I am just stating that these actions occurred, and that anti colonial struggles like this get very messy. It is why the TRC was necessary post apartheid.

I am not equating Hamas to the ANC, I am saying that the idea that Palestinians would genocide all Israeli citizens if they could, is just as misinformed as the idea that there would be genocide if apartheid ended in South Africa.
