Follow-up for: https://lemmygrad.ml/post/4630949
I had given two separate deadlines for community purging based on whether the community was created in 2024 or not. But I ended up purging all the unclaimed communities today anyway because I don’t think the owners are going to respond. Sorry about that but it makes my work a bit easier. Also I like big purges and I can’t lie.
The following communities have been purged and the corresponding moderators notified via a DM:

We will work on removing more inactive communities soon.
This is literally 1984. Hobart shall live on in our hearts.
I don’t think it’s against the rules to re-create a community, is it? You’re the right person for the job. This is one of those once-in-a-generation opportunities. It looks like the people are crying out for Hobart. Seize the moment!
It is done. https://lemmygrad.ml/c/hobart
Hobart down!
I repeat: Hobart down!
Over.
Rip hobart (v_v)7 Damn bastards
Who made a bunch of communities for Australian cities anyway? I grew up in Darwin and it can barely sustain a subreddit let alone a niche commie community.
There is this weird tendency to squat community names in some people.
oh that person made seven city communities and three general austrialia comms, never posted anxthing or commented on anything. really weird person
Since the times when your handle on Twitter was your username, when some guy named Tom sold the handle @Tom to someone else for hundreds of thousands of dollars, this became common practice. Whenever new social media appears, some people will go in and create all the communities they think have a chance to be used someday. Communities for cities, possible new games, companies etc. Then when the time comes, they either sell the domain to the one who wants it, or they become the admin of a community without working to build it up. That’s how reddit power mods became a thing.
You have to admit, Hobart sounds funny.
Is Tasmania Australia? Is there not a Tasmanian separatist movement? (I actually don’t know, I just assume all non-independent islands have separatist movements).
Tasmania is Australia it’s just a little broken off. It probably does, but Western Australia is usually the big separatist state.
Coincidence that Hobart and Harambe are pretty much the same word I think not
Frankly, /c/fanfiction could’ve been useful.
(I’m something of a fanfic connoisseur myself!)
It might be better to have a larger “writing” community instead of a fanfiction only one. Maybe just sort posts by whether they are original work or discussions or fanfiction.
Something like Writing Prompts would be cool.
You’re a mod of https://lemmygrad.ml/c/creativewriting, can’t fan fiction be posted there?
True, but I was thinking that could be used for more, err, “original” fiction, I think?
Up to you. :)
Hold on.
I just made a few announcements on my personal feed and the communities I moderate.
