It’s great imo it’s kind of a sequel to crisis on two earths and war world I think it’s called. My personal favorite part is the idea that hubris ridden characters can accept fate as much as the main characters defy it.

So, this movie takes place in the Tomorrowverse, a series of direct-to-video movies that started in 2020 with “Superman: Man of Tomorrow”. There was a previous shared universe of direct-to-video movies called the “DC Animated Movie Universe” (2013 - 2020). To fully understand the movie, you’ll need to watch:

    • Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013) (First movie in the DCAMU)
    • (ideally, you’d have watched every movie in the DCAMU, but it’s 16 movies and that’s too much time for someone to commit)
    • Justice League Dark: Apokolips War (2020) (Last movie in the DCAMU)
    • Constantine: The House of Mystery (2022) (short film that bridges the DCAMU and Tomorrowverse)
    • Superman: Man of Tomorrow (2020) (First movie in the Tomorrowverse)
    • Justice Society: World War II (2021)
    • Batman: The Long Halloween (2021) (two-parter)
    • Green Lantern: Beware My Power (2022)
    • Legion of Super-Heroes (2023)
    • Justice League: Warworld (2023)

Anyway, I’m biased, but as a fan of these films, I loved it. The beginning felt a little too long and I think that could have been saved for its own movie, but I see how it all tied together at the end. It was fun seeing the alternate versions of some characters, and even some characters from the short films like Blue Beetle and The Question.

As for the animation…aside from a few short wrinkles, I appreciated it for what it is. Apparently a lot of people on social media don’t like the anination and that it looks like Archer. I don’t really get the hate.

If you’re not already a fan of the Tomorrowverse or DC’s direct-to-video animated movies, then this one won’t change your mind. But I can say that I enjoyed it, despite the non-linear storyline and certain scenes dragging for too long. If you’re a newcomer you might be confused, though.

By the way, this is a trilogy, and Parts Two and Three are expected to be released later this year. It’s also rumored that all of DC’s previous animated universes are expected to be part of the Crisis trilogy, so stay tuned!
