The Moon, unprovoked, collided with the Russian vessel that was approaching amicably. An old, whitened but still recognizable USA flag was planted on the Moon’s surface, indicating this as a clear act of aggression from the imperialist power

Glad it was unmanned. There’s enough senseless death in the world.

If you take a look at the lunar missions for space race, you’ll see many of them happened within a year of each other. It’s a wonder there weren’t more failures!

Compare that to today, where it took almost 20 years of planning for the Hubble telescope to come into fruition.

You shouldn’t rush things in space. This is just the latest reminder.

Don’t you think that the fact that the mission was unmanned meant that they knew that they’re not ready for manned ones yet? So nobody was rushing, as you put it.

Crewed vs uncrewed is a decision made at the very beginning of the planning stages, years ago. These days a crew is just a gigantic extra expense on a mission with little return. Remotely operated missions can achieve all their scientific objectives.

Manned lunar lander is a mich complex piece of technology which needs to be developed from scratch. It also needs a much more powerful rocket which Russia don’t have either. It’s at least a decade of extra R&D time even if they get all the funding they need and magically get rid of corruption (which obviously won’t happen).

It’s unmanned not because they chose it but because they are literally incapable of making a manned mission (at the very least for a couple of generations).

Well, “incapable” is still not true. Yet. There are people and even places. Fewer and fewer.

It’s just that nobody really wants anything. All those “big fish” of Russia’s current regime - they are corrupt in the full sense of the word, they don’t have any goals even of the tragicomedy “USSR restoration” sort. They are all simply being bought and sold by various more coherent dictatorships and factions around.

I mean, if there was hope for anything else, then that would reflect on the military and a military takeover would have already happened. Maybe not a good thing without context, but that would mean that Russia as a society is not in such deep apathy.

Eh, I’m not dead, not in prison and inside Russia, and I don’t consider myself a fascist (definitely not) moron (I have my moments, but surely so does the author of those words).

Anyway, it’s still corruption, not fascism. It’s a difference between depressive apathy and maniacal madness. These are the opposites. In some sense the current state of the Russian society is a result of choosing literally anything (like Putin) over mostly imagined fascists (or communists, or anarchists). People expressing that sentiment would think they are very wise, but they’d all say the same things and wouldn’t elaborate how they’d come to such conclusions.

It’s all those “grey morality” types thinking they are very smart. Thank God there are some (absolute minority, but how many do you need to know?) younger people for whom all this apathetic swamp wisdom has unexpectedly morphed into “I don’t want to judge anyone else, but as for myself I want to be a good person and do what I should”.

A couple years back, Putin promised to put a Russian on the moon. A good question is “with what rocket?”

Turns out, an even better question is “with what communications system?” A factor in this crash is that they lack a round-the-world comm system. They can only communicate when the moon is visible over Russia. It’s a big country, of course, but not big enough for 24/7 communication.

A good question is “with what rocket?”

Probably Yenisei which unfortunately had its development paused.

A factor in this crash is that they lack a round-the-world comm system.

They’ve had this with GLONASS for over a decade. For far-side communications, you need a single relay satellite like what China used for Chang’e-4. However, you don’t actually need either of those for many lunar missions. When the Americans sent humans to the moon, they just used radio waves that were picked up from various ground stations across the world.

GLONASS is a GPS navigation system, not a communication system. And the problem is not communicating with places on Earth, the problem is the lack of systems capable of communicating with the Moon.

Sure, but they haven’t. The main reason being the lack of close allies with wide geographic distribution to locate those stations on and the lack of resources to spend on doing that kind of thing.

Well, there’s one thing I’d say in favor of Russian imperialism as opposed to Turkish one. Russian imperialism is in most stages not genocidal. Turkish imperialism is genocidal even at its softest.

A-and since Turkey is in NATO, maybe you should look at the stars, breathe, have some tea and think that maybe hating is in general counterproductive. Say, I don’t hate anybody.

You may spend some time thinking about that too. Also s/stages/phases/.

If it’s not clear, I’m personally fine with Russian imperialism - it’s questionable whether Finland or even Poland (yes, its dismemberment by Prussia, Austria and Russia was not cool, but in an alternative timeline it could be just Prussia and Austria) would be independent states today without it, Baltic countries surely wouldn’t (Germans again - all those patriotic Latvians and Estonians hating on Russia kinda forget than “a Latvian” and “an Estonian” were synonyms of “a serf” there for a few centuries, same with parts of Lithuania) and Armenia wouldn’t exist, neither as an independent state nor as a thing, and whatever Georgians may think, they’d be a rustic minority similar to Laz in Turkey in what is now Georgia.

Say, Wales and Scotland are not independent states, Brittany is not an independent state, Catalonia is not an independent state, one can go on about Occitan parts of France (when I was studying French, I also took some interest in Occitan language, it’s not the same at all), Low Saxon parts of Germany, Frisian parts of three countries etc.

              I mean, whatever.

              TL;DR:

My point was that the Russian empire was pretty European and much less genocidal than other European empires at that.

While your country is likely allied with Turkey, so as an Armenian I could care less of what you think, and also any alliance involving Turkey as a member deserves much more hate than any alliance involving Russia as a member (unless it involves both as members, that is). You can’t just condemn Russia and not condemn Turkey and its every ally, and not become a joke.

Oh, wow. You really think this evaluation you just shat out has any weight? This line doesn’t work.

FFS. Some boor possibly speaking no language other than English and living possibly on a different continent calling me brainwashed.

I speak (well, stutter a bit) and read Russian and English, understand Belorussian and Ukrainian (no, these are not as close to Russian as many people think), kinda (not very good, but satisfactory) read French, German and, ahem, Armenian, and with heavy assistance from a dictionary understand texts in Dutch, continental Nordic languages and various Romance languages and obviously Slavic ones.

I also study history through documents and facts, and don’t watch TV at all, and mostly don’t use social networks, at least not to get news.

Now, what we have as you - a person who didn’t even understand the references I made.

Just so you’d know, people with some brains and knowledge who defend Turkey being in NATO do not use moral argumentation, because it fails every fucking time. They use practical argumentation along the lines of “the world being unjust”, Turkey “being a useful ally militarily”, Armenians and Kurds being unimportant or not white enough, “life is tough” and so on.

I can’t possibly be more brainwashed than you.

Because Russia is THE genocidal country of the modern world.

It’s obviously not. Not any more than Turkey or China or even Saudi Arabia. Just all other genocidal countries are useful partners.

You don’t even get the meaning of the word “genocide”. It’s not conquest - conquest means subduing a population, making it obey and work for you. Conquest with war crimes involved is not genocide. Genocide means destruction as the goal in itself, and Russia is not doing that. There are plenty of Ukrainians on Russian-occupied lands, there are no Armenians at all on Azerbaijan-occupied lands. End of story.

I hope you join putlers forces and go to ukraine,

I hope one day to join the forces of the republic of Artsakh.

You really are disgusting. A person who’ve found an indulgence in finding one conflict where his polity supports the “good guys” and behaving as if it nullifies everything else, tabula rasa.

because honestly the world is better off without you in this state of mind.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Russia’s Luna-25 spacecraft has crashed into the Moon after spinning out of control, officials say.

The unmanned craft was due to make a soft landing on the Moon’s south pole, but failed after encountering problems as it moved into its pre-landing orbit.

The spacecraft was scheduled to land on Monday to explore a part of the Moon which scientists think could hold frozen water and precious elements.

Roscosmos, Russia’s state space corporation, said on Sunday morning that it had lost contact with the Luna-25 shortly after 14:57pm (11:57 GMT) on Saturday.

“The apparatus moved into an unpredictable orbit and ceased to exist as a result of a collision with the surface of the Moon,” it said in a statement.

Russia has been racing to the Moon’s south pole against India, whose Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft is scheduled to land on there next week.
