I get 5% extra per year saved of sick leave on my pension, up to 2 years, adjusted to percent of the year left of sick leave. But my job is fun and people tend to want to work.

I bought a 5 piece set of these at Costco a few weeks ago and they are amazing.
I think this is the longest running battle in the history of warfare at this point.
Best: when not on a call I have minimal supervision and can do virtually whatever I want. I do good work and have legitimately saved 3 or so lives in the past month in my new position.
Worst: sleep is poor and my schedule is annoying if I have to nap in my off time.
I had to stop playing because of that. It seemed fun otherwise.
I do 48 hours in 2 days every week. Bit more spread out, but still just 2 days of work.
My union got me more money in a single year than I will pay in dues for my entire career in at least 3 separate years in the 6 years I’ve been working for my employer.
I get leave each year that is slightly more than 20 percent of my work hours.
Unions are amazing for workers.
Just made me check mine. I’m in a good union and earn 2.46 hours of sick per 40 hours of work and 3.28 hours of leave per 40 hours of work. A year of work is 2498 hours for us for reference.
I also get 48 hours of other leave, 16 hours of leave per each of 13 holidays, and I can take my overtime as 1.5 hours of leave per hour worked instead of pay. We also get 240 hours parental leave for a new child.
Leave accrues whenever we are in a paid status on straight time.
But to add to the irony, a roof is designed to keep water out of the house, as that is it’s primary job. If the roof is burned off enough that a downpour can put the fire out the only thing in there that isn’t a charred soggy mess is the foundation. This guy has lost everything he has and he’s just watching everyone else celebrate someone who was an asshole to him.
At my previous job I did hospital triage. Once a guy walked up to me and said “My wife isn’t doing well, I think she’s dead”. He told me she had been sick for several days and when she started doing really badly he had to get his neighbor to help carry her to the car. He said he didn’t want to bother the fire department.
He had driven from his home on the eastern fucking shore of Maryland to DC. 100+ miles. Told me he was going to be staying at his house in Maryland because he didn’t like his house in DC. She came out of the passenger seat and stayed in a seated position and we put her in an unstaffed room.
Show the cow a fire and bring it to the table.
If you have asthma don’t fuck around with inhalants. I’m a paramedic and I’ve seen too many people lately with asthma not responding to their daily inhaler (advair, breo, etc…) plus their nebulizer at home with Albuterol and ipratropium. Last shift I had two people who were dying from asthma exacerbations at home, one I managed to reverse with what I have and she left the ER 8 hours later and the other I prevented an intubation and he still went to the ICU. There’s too many irritants in the air for you to add more to yourself. Stick to edibles.
Used to see these people with multiple prescriptions for Percocets. They would use one for themselves and sell all the rest as individual pills to pay for treatment.
American healthcare system turned little old ladies with cancer into hardcore drug dealers.
My union has gotten me more money in multiple single years since I’ve been hired that I’ll pay in dues for my whole career.
I have been looking into this lately, it seems there may be some commercial options that are normally for industrial use. I found some on Amazon that seem too cheap for this.
As a firefighter I’ve been running a bunch of these battery calls. The best case scenario is they just smoke up your house., and worse case I’ve seen videos online of the room going from nothing to IDLH (Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health) in under 20 seconds.
We’ve had a ton of ebikes and scooters burn up in homes. Never charge those inside. I’ve see power tool batteries burn up huge sections of residential houses, and I’ve seen laptop batteries explode right under the feet of other firefighters. That last bit was super cool, rarely get to see explosions that aren’t car tires popping. Those laptop batteries would have caused a huge amount of damage if the building wasn’t made of concrete - they allow modern midrises to be stuck built!
I have a union. It’s really nice. I’m working on studying Spanish so I can get it. It’s on our base pay so 1.50 on overtime; the extra 3k a year would be pretty nice.
We also can call a translation line and have phones for Google translate.
We get an extra dollar an hour for a second language if we pass the test for it.
I forgot to do my laundry until 2300 last night. I’ll be going in to work on less than 4 hours of sleep. I’ll try to get a nap in.
My understanding is that is commuter distance to affordable living up there in Canada
With the car keys.
