Nah, mammals aren’t reptiles. We’re synapsids, which is a sister group to reptiles. Early synapsids lime dimetrodon looked and behaved like reptiles, but aren’t really classifies as such.

Well, they’re avialans, which are paravians, which are maniraptorans, which are coelurosaurs, which are tetanurans, which are theropods, which may be saurischians according to the most mainstream classification, or ornithoscelidae according to an alternate hypothesis, either way they’re dinosaurs, which are avemetatarsalians, which are archosaurs, which are diapsids, which are #REPTILES.

Would be fun if David Revoy and pmjv had a crossover. Both artists use FOSS, are on the fediverse and have at least one story with a girl who’s sword runs an OS. But one is on Mastodon and the other on Lemmy, will they ever meet?

So, armadillos are xenarthrans and apparently zoologists don’t know exactly how to classify them, there are different theories. Pretty much everyone agrees that there they are placental mammals, which makes them closer to us than possums are, but are there they closer to us or to elephants? Big question. Many answers. Xenarthrans also include sloths, and anteaters. They have weird vertebrae. That’s there big thing. I don’t know the details, but apparently no other mammals have vertebrae quite like theirs. And their metabolism is pretty slow too, by mammal standards. Anyways, they’re beautiful. And you’re beautiful too.
