Besides the fact that the South China Sea is a crucial international trade route (and thus shouldn’t “belong” to anyone), it is also bordered by many nations other than China, like Vietnam, Taiwan and the Philippines. And these nations are very bothered by the way China is using its size to bully them out of their own coastline. That is why Canada is there, to prevent China from dominating the smaller states. Obviously NATO has more than one goal in the region, but they are not uninvited guests and, in a world as globalized as ours, the South China Sea might as well be Canada’s playground.

The car manufacturers wrote the zoning laws that turned America into a car-dependent hellscape. The oil barons lobby against every single initiative/bill that would reduce consumption of oil. In absence of government directives/incentives, people will simply do what is cheapest which, in a system designed by capitalists, is environmentally-unfriendly consumption. You seem to think that everyone who doesn’t want average global temperatures to rise should simply stop consuming goods, but doing that on a scale that will actually change anything is stupidly unrealistic and possibly cataclysmic for our current economic system.

My “contribution” to this “problem”? In the context of global climate change, my contribution is a miniscule, worthless fraction, a grain of sand in the Sahara. It is NOT RELEVANT to the conversation around climate change because it’s presence or absence changes nothing.

Your attempts to paint global warming as the product of individual action completely misses the point, and you wind up simply doing damage control for the oil barons, car manufacturers and jet-setters that are actually the cause.

This is false. Having kids is very important. The earth can sustainably support billions more. That is, if a certain percentage of people did not hoard all the wealth and resources.

The way to end this war is to make it clear to Russia that Ukraine has the West’s absolute and unending support, that for every day they spend engaged in this fruitless invasion, their society plunges closer and closer to the stone age. This is best done by meeting Ukraine’s materiel requirements and continuing to diplomatically isolate Russia. If Ukraine gets F-16s, the war will be over by Christmas.

Please also remember, the West is not the aggressor here. Ukraine’s membership in NATO was explicitly refused in 2008 and at the 2021 Brussels summit, shortly before Russia invaded anyway. Russia had no reason to believe that Ukraine was gonna become an American military base, but invaded anyway. The moral responsibility for any casualties that have/will have occurred as a result of this war fall squarely on the shoulders of Russia’s mafia-style dictatorship.
