My partner is in Defence. I know people of many nationalities that serve. I was surprised it was allowed, initially but it makes sense in the context of Australian people being born overseas commonly. I’m also Australian with dual citizenship. I would consider myself more if a risk than my kids, for instance. I wouldn’t betray Australia and love life here. However if my family were threatened that might change things. That’s not uncommon in China or Russia from my understanding.

I think it’s perfectly fine to shut down bitcoin mining if it’s bad for the power grid, but then you should also look at what else is bad and shut it too. The law should be fair.

It depends on what youre doing. If youre enjoying life, then it can be worth it. If youre not, its not.

I just flew from Australia to Europe to see family. I do it every few years. It costs 24 hours of travel each way. Not to mention lost days due to jet lag. Sure, I’m alive in a flying box watching downloaded movies while willing myself to sleep. But its not living. However, the lost time is worth it to see family and experience different cultures.

Not only that but those parents do a double commute. School drop off and work commute. Before school care starts at 7am at my sons school. I start at 7:45 so hes dropped before 7:30.

One of the problems with the fediverse is the lack of niche communities to replace subreddits for those that migrated. However, forcing the issue won’t create community but only dead communities.

And less organized activity. They might go out and play on the street. Now its off to an organized event or activity. I think there was a lot of supervised neglect before, though. Most kids still did fine but many didn’t. The thing is, a lot of kids are still ending up with mental health issues.
