Technology@lemmy.world•A Ukrainian corps is battle-testing exoskeletons that can fold into a briefcaseEnglish
14·1 day agoThis seems just as toyish as did dinnerplate sized drones 2y ago. So chances are I’m wrong again.
I’m sure there are rich people who still have a conscience and may even act on it. The proposed idea (public funding for such research) is just meant to sidestep the morally bankrupts, who -despite being a minority- can still screw it up for everyone. Like the orange baboon and his slavish entourage.

582·2 days agoI didn’t know him, but apparently he financed the republicans. If that is indeed the case I say fuck this guy.
On the other hand the site took out the middleman/madam who traditionally exploited these women (perhaps man as well) So, good for them!
Edit: I’m an idiot, I’m sure the site took a fat percentage of the earnings, so technically they just replaced the pimps. And just like that my sympathy is gone…
And you imagine they’d just give the cure (whatever form that may be) away for free? That’s not what billionairs are known for! Can you imagine the calamity that such power would cause? People getting a personalized quote for
curingmanaging their cancer, which will definitely include an “affordable” monthly payment. There is an applicable recent Black Mirror episode giving you an idea of a similar scenario. No, if there is ever such an endevour, I sincerly hope it will be funded by public money and there may no patents come forth of the research or cure.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I am an American. I used to be proud of my country. Now it feels like a turd circling the drain. Is there anything going on behind the scene that America is actually doing good in?
3·5 days agoI like how you make your point, but the soft power of the US is over. As pointed out by others, the current administration is a sympthom, not an aberration.
US may have military primacy and the reserve currency, but neither can restore the loss of the appeal it had between post-ww2 and 2020. When tourists get deported after months of incarceration and we see videos of masked federal goons shooting people in the face, that is something else. When allying with the US gets you humiliation, threats, or even missle and drone attacks, that just does not seems like the smart move. So, respectfully, with friends like the US who needs enemies?
Wishing you best of luck getting your country back tough.

AI generated sh*t will be our doom but fck it, we’ll go down
But… they’ll operate on builtin mini nuclear reactors, just like submarines. They’ll go years without recharging!

51·6 days agoYeah, and the next scene is where a bunch of obese federal goons climb out of their unmarked suvs to kidnap a few brownish kids and shoot some of the parents in the face.
No, wait that isn’t fiction. Those things did actually happen.

10·6 days agoWhatever may come, there is one sure thing: nobody will trust the US ever again. It may take the old allies a while to find their footing and they may still be dependant on the US. But that relationship will be more like that of the abusive caretaker vs abused teen. Biding their time until they finally can exit the dependance.

4·11 days agoSource code of what? Unfortunately, none of the above is anywhere near enough.
We need locally available ai models that can run off-line. Also: the ai context and history must be kept separately from the model itself.
If the ai model needs to communicate with the outside world, user needs 100% transparency and control what data the ai sends.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Historic Chat Control Vote in the EU Parliament: MEPs Vote to End Untargeted Mass Scanning of Private Chats
8·11 days agoGreat news for the EU! But don’t anybody think this is it. There are powerful interests behind mass surveilance. And selling more ads is just one of the least malevolent. These interests are probably not done trying to earn a € or $ more.

I agree, they start to sound desperate to keep their current momentum going. I think the bubble will burst soon. Things look solid until they’re not.
