  • It’s not at all unusual to have to replace resigning school board members. But they must be taking advantage of a loophole to have the Governor do the appointment directly.

Under state law, the governor can appoint someone to fill a vacant state or county seat if there’s less than 28 months left in the term for that office.

According to the article, the election was just held in August. This tells me that the school board term must only be 2 years, if there is less tha 28 months left to it 3 months in. So, anyone who resigns from any school board whose term is that short will have their successor picked by the Govenor? It seems like a law that is only in place as a power grab for the governor.

I can understand not wanting to run a board short one member or paying for a special election in a school district for a short period of time. But that law should be limited to a much shorter period, like 8 or 10 months left in the term.

  • Also, getting pregnant in your thirties is risky business so abortion is by and large a youth issue, because it impacts young women more then older women.

I’d argue differently. Free access to abortion affects all women. Obviously young women in their prime child-bearing years are affected, but older women are more likely to have complications which make access to medical abortion a life-or-death issue. And the oldest remember what life was like before the Roe decision. So it is not surprising that women of all ages are viewing this election as if their lives depended on it.

  • No. It’s all about them, and their ignorance, which they believe should be given the same deference as our knowledge.

Vaccines have been in wide use for decades. They are effective. While they may have side effects, they pale in comparison to the harm that contracting the disease can cause. The findings are solid, especially for the ones that have been in use for decades like measles and polio. That son-of-a-bridge and his brain worm are not going to add anything worthwhile to the discussion.

Even the new ones with a small track record, like the COVID vaccine, shouldn’t be considered to be rushed. It was the result of pharma companies and government pouring as much money as possible into getting a safe vaccine as fast as possible, due to the profound human tragedy the virus caused. When money is no object, things can be done quickly and safely.

Using your credentials is not hacking, but once he was canned he no longer had authorization to access those systems. Legally, there is probably no distinction between gaining access by actual hacking vs. using credentials that are no longer authorized.

So yes, their IT processes are deficient, but that doesn’t let the guy off the hook or mitigate his punishment.

  • If I were hiring for a forklift operator, and someone was a good candidate who came with experience but their prior employer didn’t certify him properly, I would pay for the certification. $300 seems like noise compared with the general cost of onboarding a new employee. But it’s been a while since I worked in Manufacturing/Operations, and when I did the managers at that place were competent, so maybe my standards are too high.
