What actually happened, is that 6 months ago, a poster that is popular in NCD posted a meme that conflates Hamas and Palestinians, and in effect blames them for their own genocide.

As a result of that post, the poster in question was instance banned from lemmy.blahaj.zone.

That’s it.

As a result of that ban, no further content from the poster in question made its way to lemmy.blahaj.zone.

Yet the mod of NCD incorrectly assumed that it was only NCD content that was being removed, and rather than investigate or contact someone from blahaj.zone to clarify, they went in guns blazing with accusations based on their own misunderstanding. And when I explained the situation, they double downed on the aggression.

And the lesson from this is that whatever else happens, some people will still walk away from this thinking that the mods description of events is true, and blaming us for their fuckup.

If they’re against our guidelines block the community or defederate; if they good under our guidelines then just leave it even if it’s “just a hair under crab”, to use a metaphor

Blahaj zone admin here. There’s quite a bit of confusion and misunderstanding in this thread.

No one is “selectively removing NCD content” or anything close to it.

What happened is that 6 months ago, CDRMITTENS was instance banned from lemmy.blahaj.zone over an anti Palestinian meme they posted. You can see the mod log for that here https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/modlog?postId=11419938. This meme conflated Hamas and Palestinians in general, and basically blamed Palestinians for their own genocide. Notably, the post also broke NCD rules 2 and 5, but wasn’t removed by NCD mods.

As a result of CDRMITTENS being instance banned, none of their content reaches lemmy.blahaj.zone anymore. You can see that for yourself here https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/u/[email protected], which shows that no content from this user has reached blahaj.zone. There was no selective removal or editing of content at play, because none of their content reached blahaj.zone to be able to selectively remove it.

And other people deliberately use all of the “come on man” and “Hey mate” and “Dude is not gendered” explicitly at trans people, because it lets them get away with misgendering. So trans people, who experience that stuff every day, can be a little sensitive when someone does that, even if they aren’t doing it deliberately.

In this case, not knowing the person, and not having access to their pronouns, the comment was fine. But once you know it’s an issue, repeating it despite knowing it’s an issue is a shitty thing to do.

It could easily have been anonymised. The conversation can happen without misgendering someone a second time around.

Literally just edit the person’s name out of the image, and boom, same discussion, but this time without repeating the same mistake
