One of the many things I’ll never really understand about this whole Trump thing is how he manages to get so much support from the right-wing choad demographic when he’s such a gross, flabby, pathetic, whiney manbaby.

Of course he can, though it"s exceedingly unlikely that he will be, since it’s a process that would require integrity, courage and determination, all of which are virtually non-existent qualities in Washington today.
Which is unfortunate too, since as I have cause to point out daily, the man is quite obviously a deranged lunatic.
I really don’t think he’s ever been particularly attached to reality, but the combination of losing the 2020 election and stewing and lying for four years then lying his way to winning the 2024 election appears to have completely broken his mind. And the upshot of that is that the world in which he now lives and makes important decisions is not the real one - it’s entirely a product of his own warped perceptions, as filtered through an emotionally stunted mind that’s slaved to the task of protecting his grotesquely bloated and fragile ego and has completely lost any ability it might once have had to distinguish between reality and delusion.
That’s my reaction broadly to hate.
Even beyond the fact that it’s destructive and ugly, it just seems like a pointless waste of time and energy. I don’t get why anyone invests that much time and energy into being miserable, and especially over something that can’t possibly really matter in their lives.

Even on a very simple level, that’s harmful to oneself, because all time and energy spent vainly trying to control things one cannot control is necessarily time and energy not spent on the things one can control.
Stoicism, properly understood, is in my opinion the only possibility humanity has for survival.
Unfortunately, stoicism is rarely properly understood.
Virtually every institutionalized societal evil exists at base because some number of people are stubbornly clinging to the delusion of control over others.
As but one example, while the wave of trans bigotry exists because some number pf people believe that they should have the authority to control other people’s gender identifications, at heart it exists because those people believe that they can do so. That’s the foundation upon which their ever-more aggressive attempts are built. It’s really not a matter of whether they should or not - they literally can’t.
Stoicism would’ve already informed them of that fact, and would’ve informed them of the harm that’s done - not merely to others but to themselves - by ignoring that fact.

And instead, he’s driving up prices and inflation, increasing wasteful spending, increasing the deficit by the greatest amount ever in history, and warmongering around the world. And his personal ethics issues have exploded into a veritable orgy of ridiculously brazen corruption.
And the apologists just keep shambling along, leading a parade of morons who still can’t see it.

In fact, one of the things that perplexes me the most about politics in particular is that there are people who do willingly take part. I can only conclude that their brains are broken in some fundamental way such that they don’t see or don’t care about the harm they inevitably do.
