  • I have eOS on the fairphone 5, and I have had zero problems with banking apps and the like.

That doesn’t mean you won’t have problems though, I don’t use many of those kinds of apps other than a bank authentication app, and a few others for public transit tickets, etc. I also live in europe, milage may vary elsewhere.

Keep in mind that eOS IS android, just with google telemetry removed. You can add a google account if you want/need to, at which point any android app should work as expected. That of course defeats the purpose somewhat, but even then eOS will still help you stay as private as possible by informing you about app trackers and using alternative services for location, etc.

  • I’m not disagreeing with the opinion that imperialism is one of the biggest large-scale problems facing humanity, and that the US is the current worst offender.

I’m just pointing out that at the root of imperialism are a few powerful people attempting to rule over the rest of us. Tech-feudalism in the digital world is another huge problem, as is the rise of fascism. And they all come from class warfare, at least in my humble opinion.

But I am also not pretending to be as informed on history and current events as many other here, and I am no attempting to lecture anyone as if I know better. That would just be decisive and counterproductive.

  • Hell yeah.

I am the IT guy in my family, I have a bunch of S7s for the wife and kids with eOS, and everybody is more then happy with them.

I got a fairphone 5 a awhile ago for myself, and while it did cost €600+, I wanted the modularity and reparability, I just wanted to support that type of company and try it out. Hopefully I will have it for 10 years or so.

  • “Little to no” gender-affirming surgeries are being performed on minors in the United States, and those that are performed are overwhelmingly on cisgender minors.

Out of the 151 breast reductions that were performed in 2019 on American minors, 146 (97 percent) were performed on cisgender males, according to a new study published in JAMA. Out of the 636 breast reductions performed on adults, 507 (80 percent) were performed on cisgender males.

The study used data from 47,437,919 adults and 22,827,194 minors who were insured that year, finding that chest-related operations accounted for 1,591 out of 2,664 (59.7 percent) of surgical procedures performed on adults, and 82 of 85 (96.4 percent) of surgical procedures performed on minors.

I’d bet that you were one of those cis kids that got his breasts reduced, and like a closeted priest you are publicly shaming what you privately do. But there is no shame in it. It is a non-issue, used by the ultra-wealthy to distract from their hubris.

  • I have a Fairphone 5 with eOS, and I’m happy. Their service is painfully slow, but otherwise professional and reliable. You can run into headaches when flashing eOS if you are not super-cautious (dm mefor details if you like), but the instructions are good, and you can also buy various phones direct from Murena with eOS already installed.
