Shit, I’ve thrown out stuff several generations newer than that because it was too old.

England’s average temperature is much lower than most parts of Australia. Your population is more than double Australia’s, in a landmass significantly smaller than Australia. You live next to a continent of half a billion people who have to deal with extreme’s of cold. The Pound is worth nearly double the Australian dollar.
Given all the above, it is no surprise that double glazing is much cheaper to install in England than Australia. So most people here just put up with the 3-5mm panes of glass installed in their houses by default.
The reasons our houses aren’t as well insulated comes down to climate and cost.
Climate, people don’t die from extreme temperatures here like they do in places like Europe and North America.
Cost, we don’t have the demand for better thermal protection so anyone who wants to improve their home has to pay.
I’m in the process of trying to improve my home atm. I’ve had the blow in insulation replaced with batts, I’m replacing the windows with double glazing and I am trying to seal all of the gaps and vents that let out the heat. It will cost me 10’s of thousands of dollars by the time I’m finished, but it will make our house comfortable without costing us a fortune when we are retired.
Where do you draw the line? If you are happy to give up Ukraine to avoid a nuclear war, where do you stop? Can he take all of Eastern Europe? What about the whole of Europe? Everywhere except your country?
Putin is a bully, and you stand up to bullies.
Besides, he might have the most nukes, but given the maintenance costs for 5,000+ of them and the corruption in Russia, most of them probably won’t work.
I thought they’d already released FrostPunk?
Which is why I don’t donate to big charities, they have to earn a lot of money covering management salaries and marketing budgets before a single dollar goes to where it is needed.
“Never again… to us.”
As an atheist I believe Jesus existed, I just don’t think he was the son of god or that he was resurrected.
It would have been far easier to start a religion around a real man with actual followers than if he was a figment of someone’s imagination.
It’s ridiculous. We are absolutely in the drivers seat to be a world leader in renewable energy and out of touch politicians want us to invest hundreds of billions of dollars in nuclear power stations like it’s the 1950s and we don’t have any other alternative.
Like every other government project there will a cost blowout, and it will overrun so by 2040 we’ll have a handful of half built nuclear reactors and the budget will be a couple hundred billion in the red.
We don’t have the expertise to build or run nuclear power stations, so we would have to import all of that knowledge and expertise until we can skill up. More money.
We have the landmass and the coastline to support solar, wind and wave generation. It will be far less complex, cheaper to build/maintain, we’ll be able to diversify energy sources and there is no toxic byproduct.
The Liberals fucked the NBN, fingers crossed they don’t fuck our energy future as well.
Because he doesn’t care about religion, he’s just using them to get what he wants.
That’s such a 1950’s mentality, nuclear energy is the future!
It cost $500m to build RAC arena in Perth, construction of a nuclear power station will cost 10’s of billions, and we’d need more than 1. Who is going to run it? We don’t have trained nuclear technicians so we’d have to headhunt them from overseas in the short term until we can train local people.
Given we don’t have a nuclear power history, we’d be better to invest all that money in renewables. We have the land mass for solar farms, we have the coast line for wind and wave energy generation and there is no waste that lasts for 50,000 years that we have to store somewhere.
You know you don’t have to retire at 67, that’s just the age when you’re entitled to the pension. You fucked up or had some serious bad luck if your plan is retire on the pension. My mother-in-law is on the disability pension, she can just about afford her day-to-days bills, but anything unexpected we need to take care of it.
Assuming you aren’t a baby boomer, your superannuation should be enough to retire on, and at the moment you can get access to it at 60.
If you have built up a level of wealth that doesn’t rely on pension or super you can retire whenever TF you want.
Toyota has the largest stake in Subaru, so your down to Honda.
We can all throw shit at Reddit together.
NATO? Better to ask what is the UN for? They should have a standing army ready to slap down dictators and genocidal maniacs if they step out of line.

He’s old, he probably doesn’t remember what he had for lunch and is likely easily influenced by his staff to say or sign whatever they tell him. The problem is, by the time we get to the election his geriatric presidency will end with Trump winning, which will be bad for everyone.
While I’m an atheist, Trump’s potential second presidency has book of revelations vibes to it.
Sure, I went for the economic impact option, but causing chaos is certainly another way they could go.
While I’m sure there are financial motives behind this that are backed by the US car industry, it also makes sense if you anticipate a war with China sometime in the future. You don’t really want a large proportion of your population driving cars manufactured by the enemy that can be switched off remotely.
I’m pretty sure this was in the book of revelations.
