Money probably really doesn’t make you happy. Most of the things that make me happy have nothing to do with me being able to buy crap I don’t need.

But that dumb sentiment hides the fact that a lack of money can definitely make you miserable.

Only the people that never had stress over dentist of vet bills will suggest money is somehow not a massive factor in determining your quality of life in a capitalist society.

Yeah. For single parents and such maybe. But mostly I want to get back to where you can just live off of one FT income so this whole problem doesn’t exist.

This gives me the same vibe as all those “feelgood” stories about communities coming together to pay for some valued member’s back surgery or cancer treatment or something.

Proton did not praise Trump. Their CEO praised a choice Trump made. You’re obviously free to consider Yen’s word equal to Proton’s word but this isn’t true for everybody.

Unlike Apple, Proton’s software being open source (and by extension their promises) can be vetted by anybody with the skills.

With which I mean don’t Facebook posts sync to threads and such? I know my Instagram posts synced with Facebook when I still had Facebook.

The best option here is to just tank Chrome’s market share instead of making something that’s obviously not ideal, work.

My brother once bought me followers on Instagram as some kind of joke and that did exactly squat for reach as far as i could tell. Not saying Proton bought followers on Mastodon, but I am saying followers don’t necessarily mean anything.

Mastodon peaked a couple of times but then usage dwindled because people started using Bluesky or returning to bigtech platforms because their buddies didn’t move over. I suspect a fair amount of these mastodon subscribers are stale accounts and the Proton team just aren’t seeing the engagement they have on the other platforms.

I don’t get the “too many products” comment. Proton has always said their goal was to be a privacy first replacement for Google and not just do e-mail. The crypto wallet is a weird one as this is not among Google’s services, but i’d say their library of services otherwise perfectly follows this goal?

Proton did not comment on Trump. Their CEO did. And specifically on liking a certain hire for a certain position because he thought that would be good for small business.

It was a garbage take for many reasons, and the community let that be known. For me that was that but people keep coming back to this as some sort of unforgivable transgression.

Liberals (among which I count myself) like to piss on Musk and buddies for not actually supporting freedom of speech even though they call themselves absolutists in this area, but drastic moves like leaving over some tweet is a plank cut from the same tree…

If you’re going to move every time somebody says something you find questionable you’re going to have a hell of a time with the average company being filled with hundreds of people and thusly hundreds of opinions. And it’s good to remember most people are going to be having these takes in background without you knowing of them.

Reddit has a tendancy to be alarmist. AFAIK there’s zero evidence to support Proton are closeted MAGA. If i’m wrong on this i’ll gladly stand corrected with some substantial evidence.

Die zijn zeker goed om te hebben, maar ik zou eens beginnen met een jerrycannetje (pp) water die je gewoon ergens hebt staan… als je dat elke 4 of 5 maanden ververst ben je volgens mij prima veilig en heb je voor ruim een week schoon en veilig drinkwater.

Je moet toch ergens water hebben om in beginsel te reinigen, en om nou gelijk je regenton in te duiken omdat je pilletjes hebt…

Ik vind een boycot wel een sterke term maar we zijn bij ons thuis wel echt actief dingen naar lokale(ere) producten aan het omkatten waar mogelijk ja. Waar het wel helpt dat ik daar sowieso al veel langer mee was.

Bijvoorbeeld maar niet beperkt tot:

• Gmail enzo exit, Proton voor in de plaats.
• Amazon exit, (random webshop of gewoon gewoon de gebruikelijke dozenschuivers als bol, coolblue, mediamarkt)
• Lemmy over Reddit.
• Minder streaming diensten, meer europese diensten.
• Kijken waar producten vandaan komen in de supermarkt.
• Social media min of meer volledig weg.
• Signal over whatsapp. (al is signal evengoed gebaseerd in de VS, het is open source en niet van Zuck)

En als ik nu dingen koop betrap ik me er toch ook op even op vluchtig te googlen wie er geld aan verdient als ik het koop. Ik was aan het twijfelen tussen een Remington en Philips tondeuse bijvoorbeeld en dat is dan toch Philips geworden. (ik ben me er van bewust dat philips ook al even niet meer Nederlands is)

This is a sentiment that is just generally garnering traction in Europe as a whole I think.

I don’t even think it’s about hurting the US/Trump as much as people just have a renewed interest to support “local” business as a result of recent events.

I pump the brakes with the swearing if I’m around kids, complete strangers, or people I know really take offense to it, i’m honestly not trying to be rude on purpose.

But other than that, no. I swear a lot and have no intention to lessen that. It’s an excellent coping mechanism for stress and it doesn’t hurt anybody or, in fact, anything.

Replacing it with things like “what the cluck” would only add to the anger I feel in the moment because I think that’s horribly cringe.

Cyberpunk (and Witcher 3) already runs, and honestly way better then I expected, on my steam deck. They even have a specific graphics setting to accommodate for it’s obviously limited hardware, so CDPR are also aware people play their games on the steam deck as evidenced by this graphics setting.

Steamdeck is linux. Obviously this proton translation layer that is being leveraged is very capable.

For all intents and purposeses, CDPR is already where they need to be for half-decent Linux support and honestly I don’t understand why they didn’t already draw that last sprint that would be required to fully support this.

The problem with companies like for example Adobe over let’s say DeWalt is that they actually have a pretty strong grip on it’s target market.

If there was only one company that made tools to build houses i’m sure eventually they’d try to pull the same crap if they could get away with it.

You can totally see the same kind of walled garden thinking in things like battery platforms for powertools. Most people buy into a brand and never go elsewhere but there’s litterally zero technical purpose behind this other then toolmakers going through lengths making their batteries only fit their tools.

I knew this was his endgame. Prepare to go full “Minority Report”.
