That’s a really good mention. I’m pretty sure firejail is usig linux namespaces too. It has a flag called --net which accepts interfaces, so you could pass an existing VPN connection to it before it launches the torrent application. Probably a much cleaner way of doing it than YAML config files like I was suggesting.
Another option to preventing leaks is to run the qBittorrent application inside a namespace that only has the VPN interface passed through to it. Its basically like docker only you are just pulling the networking component out and using that. wg-netns is one tool that uses that approach to things. Might be more geared to the self-hosted community, but worth mentioning if anyone is wanting that level of security.
The AI cards prioritize compute density instead of frame rate, etc so you can’t directly compare price points between them like that without including that data. You could cluster gaming cards, though, using NVLink or the AMD Fabric thing. You aren’t going to get any where near the same performance, and you are really going to rely on quantization to make it work, but depending on your use case in self-hosting you probably don’t need a $30,000 card.

I noticed some comments saying “You can’t pirate free software”. I would take that as a challenge, so here’s how to pirate Lemmy.

The acceptance of medical care is not an equivalent situation to using free software in terms of ideological concerns. That’s conflating a social media platform with being as necessary as medical treatment. Even the roofing situation wouldn’t fit as the work is complete and they can’t exactly undone that work without destroying part of your existing house now and they certainly aren’t based on optional donation are they? I mean I assume you contracted to have them do that work, right? So that wouldn’t be a valid comparison to make either. Is Lemmy equally as important as blood poisoning or having a home to you?
The other glaring issue you didn’t consider is agent vs. artifact. In neither case is the actual person performing the service (roofer or doctor) the one being criticized for holding the tankie views. I think the article is pretty accurate about what to expect. The author’s view is grounded in reality. They are a business, but that doesn’t mean “the capitalists are in control”. I would like to think commenters have researched Accel’s prior fundings, but I know that is not likely. In short, they do not attempt to control companies. In 300 fundings, they have never attempted to take a majority stake in any company and do not hold majority stake in any company. They don’t do acquisitions.

Ok, that is what mine and the other comments were addressing. It sounds as if you were VPN’ing into the VPS from your actual location which does nothing as the VPS is registered to you. If you are running a VPN client locally on the VPS and connecting through a VPN provider that is different.
So, all traffic leaving the device is going out the VPN? if you curl ipinfo.io then does that show an IP address present in ip addr?
