Thank you. This sent me on a rabbit hole of differences between LLC and Corporations. LLC being a pass through protects the owners a little bit but passes through all the tax and some of the liability (hence Limited Liability). I remember reading something about how banks got significantly more risky with investments and predatorily with their practices when they started moving from partnerships to corporate structures.
Maybe we should get rid of corporations and force all companies into a partnership or LLC structure. Less to hide behind.
I used to not vote because all politicians are evil. Someone pointed out that if everyone picks the lesser of two evils then things are going to get less evil. I’ve voted every opportunity since.
Corporations are just legal structure organizing people together to do something. The soup kitchen, local artisan, person cutting hair out of their house, they all set up an LLC to operate under. They didn’t instantly become evil.
But if I need to buy a blender, plywood, or underwear (my shopping list this weekend), I’m going to have to buy it from a corporation. If I could buy it from a less evil corp then hopefully I make things less evil.
Why was this downvoted? I just listed the companies on NAACP website so you didn’t have to open link.
Grocery stores have some good actors with employee owned and coops.
Yeah. Was surprised NAACP had them on their list but I suppose they still have DEI verbiage. But shady company (he types on his iPhone…)
Apple Ben and Jerry’s Costco Delta Airlines ELF Beauty
Yeah. That’s my local grocery store. It sounds like they treat their employees well and do a lot in the community. And tortillas.
I mean… is that union busting? I thought I read the union threatened to strike. Costco raised wages to advert a strike. Isn’t that just unions working as intended?
I went hog hunting a few times back in my redneck days. There’s virtually no regulations and we had no idea what to do. Me and my friends went out with a full arsenal. I had a 9mm, SKS, and a 30-06.
I used every gun. It was crazy.
I make specialty vehicle electronics. My immediate thought was very small and cheap sensors. Similar to tire pressure monitoring but wired with CAN or something similar.
Well I’m at least 20 years from retirement. so I’ve got time. I’m looking into several options including coop and ESOP. First 5 years of business was living off savings and raiding retirement funds instead of getting investors. At present I’m aiming for selfish goals of repaying myself and saving for my kids.
There are tech companies who don’t want to sell. I started my tech company 9 years ago and we did almost $5M last year. My plan is to do this for next 20 years and then sell to my employees. Sure there’s a number big enough that I’d sell my company but so far any acquisition offers have been met with snark and disrespect (from me) and died pretty quick. I talk to other tech owners in similar boats. We just don’t need to tell everyone because we aren’t trying to get acquired. One vocal exception is 37 Signals.
For me it sunk in that we really need both. Insurance against the inability to work due to just getting old and retirement to allow for enjoyment and experience a life beyond the grind.
Seems reasonable.
I agree. AI could be good for first line of defense specifically for sorting our traumatizing gore and the like.
For normal moderation I think it’s only useful in the same way as spell check. Second set or eyes but human makes the final call.
Profit. Revenue minus expenses. There are some things you wouldn’t expect, like inventory doesn’t count as an expense until you sell them. So frequently profit is actually higher than money in the bank and a lot higher than what owners get paid.
Citizens United was about corporations getting rights of people, not them paying taxes as people. I’m suggesting they should because individual tax rate is higher than corporate.
Sorry. My underwear is beyond repair
