I’m currently sitting on an Island. I’m staying in a house that has a deck with a view on the Atlantic Ocean. I’m surrounded by green and by some sort of farms. One of the locals gave me a basket full of bananas and figs from one of the farms. It will be perfect weather all week.

In situations like this I wonder why I bother living in an expensive country with constant rain and miserable people. I’m aware things won’t be perfect in a place like this either but I’m willing to bet I’d be a bit happier.

I will leave on a holiday tonight for the next two weeks. I always feel like I’m whining when I say I needed it but the last few months have just been a bit too busy and I feel kind of burned out. Today I had a funeral of someone on my gf’s family side. The deceased was a very active Christian Evangelical believer and the funeral was in an Evangelical Church. I was raised a Catholic but haven’t been to church for a long time.

The funeral consisted of Christian songs, prayers and bible readings. There were a lot of younger people (13-15 year olds) there. It surprised me that they all knew every prayer, reading and song front to back. Like, I couldn’t imagine any Dutch youth still so active in the church. But they exist, I guess. It’s the Bible Belt for a reason. Big cultural surprise, in my own country.

Yeah it’s not a real language lol. More of a dialect. I just find it funny to be able to switch between sounding Dutch and sounding Flemish.
