Honnestly I was a little bit disapointed cause when I went to see it to the movie theater, I was in the mood for a scary movie. Like typical horror stuff. There is some “scary” passages, but it’s no It. So don’t expect to be full on frightened or to have big jump scares.

However I think it is a movie worth checking out. The acting is on point, the images are vibrant, overall greatly directed. Obviously the movie is a big metaphor, but I went to see it completely blind and I understood pretty easily what it was all about. I’m kind of surprised by the score on IMDB because it has a 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and I just heard nice things about this movie beforehand. It brought a tear to my eye even though I am not in the same situation as the protagonist.

I’ve been with someone who would constantly be acting in a romantic way while constantly saying there was nothing romantic and that they were not ready to be in a relationship with me. But still always wanting to spend time together, cuddling, etc. As soon as I was acting more distant or less affectionate (basically more friendly than romantic), that’s when they would up a notch the affection display.

It kept me around them because I was always hoping at one point the door would be open for a relationship. When what we had (whatever it was) “officially” ended I was at some of the lowest I’ve been in my life. Looking back at it there was so much gaslighting, now that it’s behind me, I am glad I got out of it.

I think you should tell her it’s either you try to go back together or it’s over for good. Being in this weird Schrodinger’s couple situation never ends well, for both parties. It may hurt, but in the long run you’ll get over it and it will be easier to meet new people who don’t send mixed signals.

And I totally get your point, but it is still an issue to me considering that she wanted to keep the audience hooked as they aged. As someone put it in another comment, in the first book, Harry is eleven, it appeals to kids ~11 y.o, and so on. But, and I speak personnaly, by the fifth book it was already too disjointed for 15 y.o. me. Her books are like a Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure book/episode, but without all the corny humor and the self-awarness that makes it fun.

You brought up a really good example of a fantasy world with boundaries by mentionning Tolkien. It is heavily insinuated in the LOTR books that “magic” is not “endless posibilities magic”, it has more to do with special aptitudes and/or knowledge depending on the race (like elves or wizards). It’s not like Gandalf can just snap a finger and transform someone into a chicken. I know it limits what you can do with your world but in the case of HP it opens the door to endless plot holes and contradictions.

From what I know, jam is what you described as the heterogenous fruit preserve. It’a basically fruits roughly choped, sugar and pectine.

Jelly is kinda the same thing, but instead of using whole fruits, you use juice (with sugar and pectine).

Jell-o is generally artificially flavored gelatine (which comes from animal bones).

If I’m not mistaken, in Canada there are laws specifying what can be labeled as jam and jelly, like sugar concentration and stuff like that.

It’s easy to point the finger at China when so many products the western world consumes is manufactured there.

Of course the root of evil is capitalism, but you have to understand that we would need to greatly reduce meat consuption to have the “ethical” way of breeding that most people expect. The reason why the animal exploitation is so bad is that it has to satisfy a demand that keeps growing. People expect to continue their eating habits and that companies should just be held accountable, change their ways and still produce the same quantities of meat/diaries/eggs.

SPOILER ALERT Not that big of a twist (let’s say not the 6th sense kind), but the trailer showed the part at the end where the antagonist has his big transformation. And it was half the trailer. The whole movie slowly builds up to that moment, I thought it was a poor choice to show it. It made it look like half the movie was that when it is only the culmination of everything that happened before.

I’ve also heard something along those lines. Or the other thing is that it is apparently super hard to make sure that everything in the process is 100% vegan. Even if an ingredient is technically “vegan”, the way it is produced is not automatically. For instance a lot of refined sugar use bone char to filter and bleach it.

Where I live there were people that supported a law preventing government workers from wearing religious clothing/symbol. It was presented as “an effort to secularize the government”. The same people did not see the importance in removing the crucifix we have at the National Assembly because it was “part of our history”. More than that, some were openly against it. Can you see the hypocrisy and how that kind of law just happens to affect more Islamic people ? This is an example of underlying xenophobia. In the same way, I feel like Dawkins is clearly biased because he grew up in a nation were Christianity is more prevalent. Let’s just think about how in Poland, a predominantly Christian nation, blasphemy is still an offense that can get you to prison. How can that be seen as “decent” ? Or how currently in the US Christianity is used to repeal laws for abortions or LGBTQ rights ?
