  • Also Gen X UK person here, I remember in the 90s when that hurricane made it over from the US, and we had no power for 9 days.

My dad went full survivalist, we ate nothing but baked beans cooked on a camping stove, and he got this portable black and white TV from somewhere that we could watch for an hour a day because it ran off a car battery lol.

  • I fired off the dirtiest vote today. I’m not a huge fan of Starmer but I hate the Tories much more, and they recently changed the rules so if you’ve been abroad for more than 15 years you’re allowed to vote again.

So I sent a 100% tactical fuck-you vote from overseas via proxy, motivated by nothing more than wanting to join in kicking the shit out of the Tories while they’re already down.

Greasy as hell but I regret nothing lol

  • Non-American here!

I’ve visited America a bunch of times and I really like it as a place, they have amazing scenery pretty much everywhere you look, and just about every individual American I’ve met has been really nice.

    BUT…

I’d never want to live there. Their healthcare system is insane (sorry Americans but it is) and politically as a nation they’re pretty bonkers. Guns, religion, general sort of global belligerence etc.

Also as an aside, San Francisco is genuinely one of the strangest places I’ve ever been to. I dunno if I was just there at a weird time, but it seemed like every single person there was either a millionaire or homeless. Absolutely nothing in between.

I think the thing with Arch is that it’s very customizable, so it’s essentially as complicated as you make it. If you just install the base and Firefox and Libreoffice, and never mess with the AUR or touch anything else, then you’ll most likely never have much trouble. If you’re like me and you turn it into an unholy mishmash of base packages, AUR, flatpaks, Appimages, Docker containers, VMs and lashed-together Wine things, you’ll have a huge teetering pile of spinning plates that requires constant fiddling lol. But that is very much by design.
