  • He is the official candidate as voted for in the primary.

Cool, he’s still not the official candidate because he hasn’t been selected at the convention yet. If you’re going to lecture someone for not knowing how the system works you should at least understand that the primaries don’t actually select the candidate, the convention does.

“We have to run a weak candidate that polls like shit because the last time we did this exact same thing we lost but it’ll work this time” is the real head in the sand stance.

  • and how that would work less than half a year before an election.

Normal countries don’t have elections that last over half a year. It’s clearly workable everywhere else, and it’s not like the people already voting Biden are going to not vote for whoever the Dem candidate is.

I don’t buy that it would cause confusion or somehow be less viable to change candidates; this isn’t 1880, we have phones and TVs and the internet now. If the candidate changed as little as a month before the election everyone would still know what was going on, even if was a huge pain in the ass to account for in terms of ballots.

  • It doesn’t matter if you literally preface every comment you make with “I AM VOTING BLUE NO MATTER WHO” with these people, every criticism is a psyop to get people to not vote.

You’d think having a candidate that polls like shit would be what makes people not vote for him. But no, it’s actually the fault of the people pointing out he is a bad candidate and that perhaps we should run someone who doesn’t repeatedly shout that “we beat Medicare” in the middle of a fucking debate.

The Democratic establishment fucking loves Trump, the specter of him is a permanent fundraiser and no matter who they trot out or how weak a candidate they are they don’t have to change anything, because the alternative is literally fascism.

  • Now we have people arguing that making a drawing in someone else’s “style” is copyright infringement.

No, people are saying that if you mass scrape art from the internet that you don’t hold the copyright to in order to create an image generator that you then turn around and try to sell access to, you’re violating the copyright of those artists (on top of being an incredibly unethical douchebag).

If the artwork they’re using to train the algorithm wasn’t valuable then they wouldn’t be fighting tooth and nail in court to be allowed to do whatever they want with it. They’d just shrug, say okay, and use whatever copyright free stuff they had at hand. If they didn’t need it then they wouldn’t do it, and if they need it then the people whose labor its very existence depends on should get a slice of the pie.

  • Affording therapy doesn’t mean access to competent therapy. There are plenty of therapists who got into it because depressed, anxious people are everywhere and it’s super easy to charge upper middle class people $150/session to give them the most basic mental health care advice in existence.

And for some people that’s all they need, and that’s fine. But if you have an eating disorder, or you’re LGBT, or you’re a minority, or you have PTSD or trauma you need to work through, or basically any “complex” mental health care need, it is HARD if not impossible to find a competent therapist that is in network, near you, and affordable. And there’s no way to know if the therapist you’re thinking of seeing is competent in those things at all until you go there, open yourself up, and suddenly maybe they say something extremely shitty that sours the whole experience and you have to start over again.

If I hadn’t been able to go to my local LGBT center to get therapy, I don’t know what would have happened with me. And it still wasn’t cheap! You can’t just go to therapy a couple of times and be done with it, I was prescribed 16 sessions (which is like, the basic default amount and they will extend it further if you need it), and if your copay is even $10 or $20 that is a lot of money to drop on something you’re not positive is even going to help you.

Which like, isn’t to say that heroin is a good alternative. It’s just that when someone has a $20 in their pocket and they can either spend it on a single therapy session that may or may not be beneficial to them (or can even be retraumatizing) or they can spend it on a bag of heroin that will for sure get them high and make them feel better right now, it’s not hard to see why some people are going to choose the latter.
