  • Anyone interested in American history should watch Ken Burns Baseball. It’s an excellent documentary series about baseball that’s packed full of fun facts like this. One of my favorite facts I learned was that people sang the Star Spangled Banner at baseball games before it was established as our national anthem. The documentary goes through the history of baseball and how everything that has happened to the sport beautifully depicts everything that has happened in the country’s history through the lens of baseball. For all the good and bad, it’s a great documentary series. 10/10 highly recommend!




  • At my previous job, I had a coworker who was hired on after the office decided work from home would be permanent. Everyone in the office was originally from northern Illinois since that’s where the office was, but she lived in rural Iowa in a farm with her husband. She mentioned how she really wasn’t able to get a job like this previously as she would have to commute long distance to the city. And of course she and her husband can’t just pack up the farm and move it closer to her work. So you’re absolutely right! Work from home could very well be the thing that saves small communities that have been largely going off.



  • I went on a Grand Canyon rafting trip for 6 days this time last year. And yes it regularly gets up to those temps daily. It was an amazing trip, but you had to be on top of hydration as your life literally depended on it. I had a 32oz bottle and my husband had a half gallon bottle and we refilled them constantly throughout the day. Honestly most of the day was quite pleasant assuming you wore appropriate clothing and made sure to get wet in the river regularly. But in the evening, it was so hot from the rocks radiating heat that any breeze just felt like an oven. That was the worst part of the day by far, but that’s also when we would make camp and have fun swimming while waiting for the sun to go down. 12/10 experience if you can keep up with drinking water.















  • It’s really all going to depend on your tastes and lifestyle. Like I could recommend that you get a dog and start learning how to train dogs as a hobby, but that’s just not going to work for everyone. What’s important is that you explore things and maybe even try some hobbies that could potentially improve your well-being. Maybe you live somewhere near a good hiking spot and you could take up hiking to get outdoors and get more exercise. Maybe you could learn how to cook and explore how to make healthy meals that suit you better. Or maybe you just want to create something and you could take up woodworking or make model planes or something. The possibilities are endless, you just need to decide what you’d like to get out of it.

    Personally, I spend most of my time for work indoors on a computer, so most of my hobbies involve using my hands and getting outdoors. I took up a lot of extra hobbies during covid for obvious reasons. So here goes my list of >!hobbies that will maybe give you some ideas:

    • Cooking/baking/bread
    • Candy making
    • Jam making
    • Gardening
    • Canning (goes great with gardening!)
    • Succulents
    • Mixology
    • Dog training
    • Camping/hiking (this one is minimal only because I don’t live somewhere with good hiking spots)
    • Board games, video games, and movies during the winter when I can’t go outside

    Other things I’ve considered taking up but haven’t for various reasons:

    • 3D printing
    • Bonsais
    • Home brewing
