  • While breeds such as these are a testament to vanity-driven hubris, I think it’s a stretch to call this a mundane nail trim.

There’s a lot in the article that seems to points towards malpractice (if you can call it that when the profession doesn’t require a license in AZ). Their CCTV footage is missing 30 seconds right when the dog died, supposedly for unknown reasons. Also, directly from the article:

Cardenas told investigators that while bathing Walter, he was freaking out. After the bath, she said he threw up food and yellow bile so she placed him in a kennel dryer for 30-45 minutes.

After that, Cardenas said she brought Walter to the grooming table and placed a muzzle on him “to prevent him from biting,” even though Cardenas stated Walter wasn’t trying to bite. Cardenas said once on the grooming table, Walter urinated, took two breaths and then died.

Meanwhile, multiple sources on grooming practices warn not to leave dogs in heated kennel dryers for more than 15 minutes. Pawsitivity Pet Spa published an article stating it can be “deadly, especially for dogs that are brachycephalic like bulldogs,” which means they have a short skull making it difficult to breath and hard to cool themselves. Cardenas told investigators the dryers they used blew cool air.

  • Even if we could stop poisoning the planet tomorrow, we still need to figure out how to deal with the mess we’ve created so far. The important distinction is to not let this technology development be used as a smokescreen for industries that produce PFAS, as has been done with carbon capture for the fossil fuel industry.

Perhaps the average Jane won’t be making one of these filters at home, but they could perhaps be utilized in water treatment facilities to help stem forever chemical contamination in municipal water supplies. Better yet, make DuPont pay for these systems via an industry tax or punitive damages for their negligence when promoting the materials and downplaying their risks to human health. (and the environment)

  • Ah well talking shit about work is different than actually changing your primary focus away from it. It’s just a form of small talk and they generally change tune when you actually start doing stuff about it in your life. Not coming in on a day when the manager mass-texted us that the building was out of power? I didn’t know, but apparently everyone else still came in because “it might have come on later” and I guess I was just supposed to show up out of some distorted form of solidarity?? I get that others needed the hours on their check anyways but I didn’t see the point personally.

They’ll find shit to talk about. If you decide the place is too toxic and work to cut your hours, that culture of complaining often shifts to include you, especially when you’re not there.

Maybe I’m too bitter from my previous job but good gravy am I glad to have quit.
