I mean… when possible, you should support local small businesses even if their prices are slightly higher than the foreign produced offering of a megacorp.

It’s also often the best thing from a human rights perspective. Low low prices at walmart come from exploited workers, and not just the american ones who are getting fucked. Like conditions that make the average american worker experience feel like king shit. Or just straight up actual ass slavery.

But therein lies the issue. How do I pay higher prices when I am living paycheck to paycheck? I don’t want to support this broken system of exploitation but i certainly have a vested interest in my own survival. How do i solve this when even buying basics, like food, requires participating in industries that are exploitative to their core

Not to mention the fact that Walmart moves in, sells everything cheap and puts everyone else out of business. It’s like that all over the country.

In a few locations, after driving away all nearby competitors, Walmart has then shut down locations citing that they’re actually not making enough money.

By that point though, most small businesses are long gone and don’t/can’t come back.

It’s like the masks on airplanes. You have to take care of yourself first. You are better equipped to help others when you are not on the brink yourself.
