Microsoft’s latest Windows 11 preview, KB5043145, is causing significant problems for users. The update, released last week as a preview for the upcoming October Patch Tuesday, has led to numerous stability issues and complaints.
Can anyone remember a Microsoft update in the last few years that wasn’t causing crashes and failures?
Yeah. Windows XP SP2 was a more reliable OS than SP1
Are you referring to the pinnacle of human existence?
I think it was around that time when I switched to Gentoo Linux
Truly the pinnacle of my existence, and as it seems, it was a wise choice
Like, most of them? It’s an experimental channel and the amount of overall updates dwarfs those that do the funny, yadda-yadda. The funnier thing though is they have a total grip on everything, all resources and brains, dedicated testers, and therefore have no reason to fail at all. Yet, the stability of Windows is worse than on popular Linux distros even when it doesn’t BSOD.
That whole company will go the way of Intel. Imagine having a virtual monopoly on a colossal market and becoming this greedy and complacent.
I wish but life isn’t fair, that’s a Hollywood fairy tale

This is so fucking annoying.
All week we’ve had issues with users using Outlook only to discover today that it’s due to a faulty update on Microsoft’s part and they haven’t released a fix for it so we need to revert.
I’m getting realllllllly tired of having to fix Microsoft’s mistakes and be their beta testers while we pay for that privilege. And this is all with them offering a program for users to be actual beta testers. Their stable channel is riddled with bugs too.
People need to quit putting up with this.
I’m personally moving away from it and wish my job would follow suit instead of rewarding them with more business.
Im not a Microsoft fan either, but this is a completely optional preview update. The reason they send these out before officially releasing it is to find these exact issues.
Mate I’m hearing this for decades now. It has improved though, open source is apparently not a cancer anymore
I think Microsoft has been using copilot a bit too much 😹
Weird, I haven’t been experiencing any of this. Am I still at risk of running into this issue if I haven’t seen it so far? I don’t use this shit-ass OS, if that helps.
Anyone still using Windows is definitely at risk by virtue of being a fucking loser.
Yup I’m a loser for having a job with computers, big-time.
I was joking you humorless windows user.

Who is even installing preview updates? Why?
Only way I could get a bunch of drivers for my new laptop. Had no Webcam, no sound and only limited TouchPad functionality until I installed a preview version
Why? Doesn’t the laptop come with working hardware?
I nuked windows to get rid of malware manufacturer installs
And the manufacturer didn’t have drivers on their support page?
They did, but they didn’t work until I installed the preview version. I mentioned in a different comment: I got the laptop with latest Ryzen 735 and I think this hardware may be really new so Windows was still catching up.
That’s lame. At least you got it working. Wise choice to nuke the OEM install. Next time install Linux!
That was actually first thing I did, but resolution scaling is still pretty much broken at least on Plasma and I’m too old to switch DEs. Plus, I had very unreliable connection via my TB docking station that I’ve never experienced with my previous Dell laptop.
I’ll eventually switch back anyway. I’ve been daily driving OpenSuse for over a decade, but I figured I’ll give windows a chance for now. With WSL, it honestly feels like a polished DE more than a completely different OS.
Just get the drivers from manufacturers website. What laptop is it?
I did, they didn’t work until I installed the preview version. I think this hardware is too new. I have the Asus ProArt 16 with Ryzen 9 HX 735
Ohhh, yeah I suppose if it’s brand spanking new it might be designed for a certain minimum version. Not common but possible.
Careful this might strike the crowd
Is this different that usual for Windows?
I wouldn’t know…
So all of the computers at my work, which were switched from W10 to W11 within the last month, might crash on Tuesday? Sick.
I doubt your IT department is installing preview updates in your production environment.
The event on Tuesday will not be the preview, will it?
Lemme sum that up for you:
