Not all engineers are the same. If you’re the kind of “top talent” that Ford is trying to recruit, you’re probably well-compensated and can live wherever you want.
Or you’re just willing to accept living on scraps for some reason, like most Californians. Don’t know why they do it exactly, but the point is that they do. That’s why CA is “Silicon Valley” and it’s precisely WHY the prices are so high.
Yeah, that’s cool and all, but how are they going to pay engineering talent enough to move out there? LA and Orange County housing isn’t cheap…
What do you mean “how”? They’re a multi-billion dollar company.
I guess it depends then on the number of engineers, but they’d probably need a substantial pay raise to justify moving out to such a high COL area.

My experience as an engineer is that companies now are paying sub-living wages, so maybe I’m a tad jaded, but…
