Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!
Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!
Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.
So how’s it going?
I just love that this community and instance exists, I’m really enjoying Lemmy and I think it’s easily taking the number 1 spot in my digital life
It was a bit skint when I first got here and there wasn’t much going on but it’s growing quite organically (the fediverse in general) and it feels really good
Got my Bill Bailey tickets, pretty decent seats too.
It was brilliant seeing him a couple years ago, it was one of the first large events I went to after lockdown times. Nice to have him back so soon.
Made it into the office for the first time in a few months. Can’t wait to get back home…
Sleeeppy
Happy Monday!
I made it in to the office despite the surprise bus strikes.
Anyone else having issues commenting on lemmy.world?
Toddler brought home another bug that’s running through the family, dog left a bone behind the family car and got a puncture so now shelling out for a pair of tyres. But I’m wfh and warm, so it’s a good day
Unlucky! We’re only just getting through what the primary aged kid brought back a couple days before school holidays. Luckily it’s been stay at home weather most of the time anyway.
Today looking at what can be done in the next few weeks to progress a (on-site physical) project before I take 4 days leave for #fibretron helping with one of the vendors while keeping an eye on socials for a startup #nzpol party who need help growing from teenage memes to a real force of social unity in the fragment that is the minor (and yet to be) parties.
Fostering the dreams while paying the bills with reality.
I guess I’m a dork because I clicked on that thinking fibretron would be something to do with the internet
It’s an interesting crossover as an internet connected generation starts knitting. You see those yarn bombing militant knitters too. It has all the social and community things that happen online, but is physically creating things.
With fibre from I’m supporting my DW in her addictions and helping others be more awesome with their yarn addictions too, but the closest I can claim to knitting fame is I got a t-shirt (with the slogan “weapons of mass construction” on it) for attempting to knit backwards.
Apologies for the off-topic hijack, but hi! Nice to see you here, fellow (ex?) Ingresser. :)
Still Ingressing (L11) - good to catch you here too @d3Xt3r
Yay for short weeks! Boo for still having to get the same amount of work done though…
(Please note, I am officially an old person™ and use ellipses as a way to trail off an unfinished thought, not for whatever the young’uns have reassigned it for)
Wait, what have the young’uns reassigned ellipses for?
Also old here, and use them often as you do.
Apparently they are seen as rude or awkward. Which… Tough. When I talk I tend to trail off a bit once I’ve gotten the point across and I guess I just do it in text out of habit, too.
But actual old people use them in a different way that I still don’t understand.
They’re used in quotes to signify that some words have been taken out but that’s about the only other use that I can think of.
Now that I think about it, I think I use them so much because I’m used to them from reading comics.
Nah off the top of my head I think it might have been like they do it when they are expecting a reply, so other generations make them think they are supposed to reply or something.
Having been on the receiving end of it from two people professionally, wracking my brains over what their problem was, until I learned how they were actually meaning it:
The trailing ellipses feels like it’s ‘politely’ avoiding saying the “obvious” conclusion out loud. And if someones avoiding saying it, it’s probably negative. That’s why it’s seen as passive-aggressive.
To my generation it sounds like, I dunno, saying “Where there’s smoke…”.
Are you in the younger than normal or older than normal generation?
It was supposed to be extremely rainy today, but hasn’t rained all day so far (Wellington). I probably would’ve gone into the office if I’d known.
I’m one of these weird people who is more productive in the office than at home. Although it helps that my office is pretty quiet. Especially prefer to start the week from the office.
