I accidentally bought a tamper with a textured surface instead of just a smooth surface. Is one better than the other?

it undoubtedly matters to some degree, since i suppose that creates irregularities in puck thickness, which in turn may create irregularities in extraction all else held equal, etc. whether it matters significantly in your specific use case depends on other details.

Yeah it seemingly doesn’t make a notable difference to taste or flow, compared to my smooth tamper. But the puck does look better right after tamping with the small rings created by the tamper 🤷‍♂️
