If you’re considering a side hustle, the best one is preparing yourself to apply for a job that pays a living wage.

We shouldn’t have to work in our downtime to live a good life.

Sometimes, and bear with me here, sometimes we engage in hobbies that are fun and pay us a little beer money. I know, I know, pretty incomprehensible, but it can happen.

To answer OP’s question; Been meaning to get into buying old kayaks off FB Marketplace in the winter, fixing them up and selling in the spring. Easy $100-$200 bucks profit a pop, and it would be fun learning new tips and tricks on someone else’s gear.

Love to do some gunsmithing, but my skills aren’t quite there and people are so fucking picky about their guns. Too much like auto mechanics. “Ah! There’s a microscopic scratch!”

Not a bad idea with the kayaks. I just bought a couple of old style geoff barker kayaks/ canoes from an old bloke who does that as a hobby. The old style fibreglass kayaks really lend themselves to easy and quality repair jobs. I felt like we both got a win out of the sale.

They’re pretty fun on the water compared to my old plastic behemoths. So easy to load and unload and takes almost zero energy input to paddle. Bloody easy to tip them over though!

This is specifically an issue in the US where the minimum wage just doesn’t match the cost of living in many areas.

Many European countries do much better on this.

I like apps sometimes for a bit of extra money, stuff like Streetbees, Roamler, BeMyEye, stuff where you take a few pics and get a few quid.

I do miniature painting commissions. Mostly it’s been pretty smooth. I’d have been painting anyway, so may as well get paid for it. A surprising (to me) number of people who play tabletop games have no interest at all in painting.

I do some 1099 work in the nunya business

Real answer, the more housework I do the more time my part time corporate retail employed partner has to find a different job.

I teach snowboarding in the winter! You get a free pass, get to meet lots of people, and the more time you spend thinking about snowboarding the better you get at it. Also great for fitness. It can get pretty exhausting though.

I deliver newspapers and amazon packages in the mornings . Probably about 10 hours of work a week for $300 or more every 2 weeks depending on how many packages I need to deliver . It’s been more since it’s getting close to Christmas
