We should have trust in the system. The system is supposed to be representational of the people that fund it through their taxes and elections for people like school boards, town councils, and DAs.

If the system is fucked, it’s our fault…not the systems.

The root of the problem is that nobody wants systemic fixes. Everyone elected either wants to fix their own little corner independently or just ignore it and starve the beast. Neither work. Systemic problems need to be addressed systematically.

Let’s look at bullying and the causes of it…usually the bullies are abused or neglected, and usually abuse and neglect comes from generational poverty. So you gotta fix that. But nobody wants to.

I’ve actually had a couple of my bullies reach out to me recently, now nearly 30 years later and they are parents themselves, apologizing for the shit they put me through because their home life was shit. Their words, not mine.

Clearly it’s your fault for being bullied.

Most cars have recalls, usually for benign shit. My Honda had to go in for a fuel pump. Now it needs to go in for some infotainment cable. I’m pretty sure there were a couple others, too.

I actually really appreciate the rational response to this that people have had about waste fruit, the rotting, and the food chain that follows the fallen fruit.

I had wanted to plant a few fruit trees in my front yard and allow neighbors to just take fruit off of it. Lots of people walk up my 0.5mi dead-end road.

But then I remembered what every PYO farm is like…tons of rotting fruits sitting at the bottom of all of them. And any apple someone picks that isn’t 100% perfect gets tossed in the pile.

That’s a lot of maintenance. Totally doable for an individual or small group to maintain a small patch. Gets really difficult to scale up.

The executive isn’t supposed to be wielding power unilaterally. What the president does now, with executive orders and signing statements and line-item veto, is massive overreach.

In a properly functioning democracy, the president delegates authority over most everything to trusted advisors (i.e. head of FCC, or DEA, or what have you) who are placed in that position because they have demonstrated both great political/leadership skills, and appropriate knowledge of the area they are governing. The president still has the final say-so in the form of veto power, but that’s pretty much it.

But farmers can give massive doses to their herds as a prophylactic, and that’s totally fine?

Exactly. They aren’t even decent gatekeepers. They just get paid and write a script, because they know if they don’t, the next NP on the next app will.

I could just go out and buy antibiotics “for animals”, too.

Same thing with heartgard. Why the fuck are the pre-portioned dog treats literally thousands of times more expensive, and gatekept by vets, than OTC horse paste?

ETA: a big part of the cause for antibiotic resistance is people not finishing a course of antibiotics…which is because they are saving them so they don’t have to jump through hoops next time they get sick. The current solution is actively a part of the problem.
