The day before his inauguration, President-elect Donald Trump will reportedly be attending an interfaith prayer service in Washington D.C. His wealthiest supporters can also attend — if they write or solicit a big enough check.

5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

    Mathew 6:5-7, King James Version

How much for the brunch afterwards where you get to rip into a sub-minimum wage server at Olive Garden because you keep getting one breadstick more than the number of people at the table?

12 Then Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who were selling and buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves.

13 He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it a den of robbers.”

Just to be clear, he didn’t have the whip on him. He was so outraged that he left, braided his own whip, and came back like four hours later.

I like to imagine Christ sitting on a rock muttering to himself, “Doing that shit in The Lord’s house, I’m about to show you assholes the proper ending to a Monopoly™ Game, and that won’t even be invented for another 1900 years.”

Meanwhile the apostles are just watching in horror trying desperately to figure out what it was that finally pissed him off.

When asking yourself, “WWJD?” always remember that whipping people and flipping tables is on the menu.

I remember seeing people during the first Trump administration insisting that Trump was chosen by God.

This was in spite of him married three times, cheating on his pregnant wife with a porn star, bragging about grabbing women by the pussy, and generally putting money above anything else beside his ego. When called out on it, the response was merely “I don’t care.”

Truly a bastion of moral values!

It is explicitly a Christian teaching that all rulers are chosen by God, although not necessarily because they are good people who will do a good job which is what most of the people who said that about Trump were getting at.

They want the world to end because they think it’ll rapture them into heaven and they’ll be pampered for all eternity. They WANT bad leaders who will stir up the Israelites, etc.

They want a nuclear war. They think the Bible prophecizes it.

I don’t think that’s a generally true description. I’m sure there are some amount of people for whom that applies but I don’t think most people who classify themselves as Christians would agree with those statements.

Maybe not the Christers (Christmas and Easter church goers) but the weekly+ faithful do. It’s way more common than you’d think… unless you are one of them, and then it’s exactly as often as you’d think, and I was one of them. The number of them there multiple times a week who not only believe the end of days is a good thing but actively pray and donate and vote for it to come faster is significant.

You’d be surprised, especially in the US. Biden is an avid believer of that, for example.

Biden does not want a nuclear war. If he did, we would have had one, he’s had plenty of opportunity to start or allow one, and instead he has actively worked to avoid it. I also would contest the idea he wants to die to get to heaven earlier.

Honestly, at this point if they’re still stupid enough to pay it, good luck to him. He’s shown time and time again who he is, so I have no sympathy for them.

They’re not stupid. They know exactly what they are paying for – power and influence. I’d love to get in the minds of people attending this event and see how many actually believe their religion.

Because he is. The GOP has all three branches of government, a good chunk of state legislatures and governors, and a media sphere that’s indifferent to actively complicit in helping to cosign whatever he does.

no for sure. i got that. but you still hit on a terrifying truth. he was trying to hide it before. there was at least some reason for him to act like he wasn’t who he is. this time there’s none of that
