Russia and Ukraine have tried different strategies, but as Forbes notes, one aspect remains the same: “both sides rely heavily on artillery.” Russia dominates in this area. “The Russians fire approximately 10,000 rounds per day, while the Ukrainians fire approximately 2,000 rounds per day.”
“The Russian army has more artillery than any other army in the world, and three times more artillery pieces than the US army,” the publication continues. The two main howitzers of Russia are the 2S19 and 2S33. Forbes notes that the Russian MIC “produces 250,000 shells per month, which corresponds to the rate of use.”
Ukraine has to rely on a mixture of Soviet and new equipment provided by NATO. The magazine admits that this has become a problem for the Ukraine, since Ukrainians are heavily dependent on supplies of Western shells because of this.
