No mention of the Dust Bowl being caused by the removal of deep-rooted prairie grasses for cattle ranching, etc.

The article literally cites “relentless overplowing” as a primary cause. Of course that means removing the existing plants (i.e. native grasses) in the context of converting the prairies to farmland. Not really sure what additional context you are providing, or expecting the article to convey here. Cool pic though.

i missed that, but fwiw I’d prefer it specifically mention the prairie grass. “Overplowing”? What, like you’ve plowed it, then you plow it again? Then you really overplow it by plowing it a third time?

        Could be better constructed, imo.

    Saved you a click:

the 1930s were the decade of the Dust Bowl — the grim result of relentless overplowing of the Great Plains followed by natural oceanic cycles that favored a multiyear drought, which coincided with the Great Depression.

The heat was localized to one continent. See their pic for world comparison (open in new tab for bigger version):

The article is a worth a read, answers the question in the first couple paragraphs, and isn’t a site flooded with ads. You’re just saving people from learning more than the answer to the headline
