I liked it, but it also fits in with the other odd entries in the series. It was very much a side story to Fury Road, a movie with more inherent drive and direction. It reminded me of Dune Part 1; more of an appetizer than a main course. It was a good appetizer, but it wasn’t an exercise in nonstop motion like Road Warrior or Fury Road.
Chris Hemsworth was fantastic, honestly my favorite role from him yet. The Old Man and other new side characters also shared the signature weirdness I love in these movies. Anya Taylor-Joy might not be mommy in the same way as Charlize Theron, but she can also top me anytime she wants ❤
But victory is a long way off for the $168 million production starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth. George Miller’s prequel stormed theaters riding on great reviews and was expected to have at least a slightly stronger debut.
For Sony, the launch of the more modestly budgeted “The Garfield Movie” is a win even without the bragging rights of being in first place. The animated film featuring the voice of Chris Pratt is likely to have a long life at the box office the summer holiday beginning for school age children. With its early international release, “The Garfield Movie” has already earned over $91.1 million against its $60 million production budget.
In other words, currently Furiosa is edging Garfield, but Garfield will ultimately dominate Furiosa.
I dunno, Furiosa might have a second coming.
